So it's time. Andrew is almost three. We jumped right in with big boy underwear, while Grandma and Grandpa visited (and brought a fancy Dora the Explorer potty with them!) We had tried to suggest the potty while he was in diapers but it didn't take. We had to go straight to underwear. Drew did well: within two days he could anticipate going #1. Poo? That's a bridge that he won't cross yet...
To reiterate that poo goes in the "Dora chair", I asked him to show his teddy bear Henry how to use the potty. We gave Henry all the same prizes: pretend candy and a sticker for completing his business on the toilet. Drew seemed into it, as though he liked teaching Henry about it all.
So I thought.
A few hours into it, Henry disappears. No one could find him anywhere. Drew seemed as stumped as we were. Did Truman take him?
Later that night, while vacuuming, Henry was found stuffed next to the radiator. Were we pushing the potty on him too much to make him hide Henry and pretend he didn't know where he was?? Grandma and I put Henry on Drew's bed as he was brushing his teeth. We couldn't wait to see his face when he realized we found his hiding spot for Henry! Drew walks in, says "Oh there's Henry" and kept going about his playing. We couldn't believe it! It was as though he had no recollection of his culpability in Henry's disappearance in the first place!
