Poor Ryan. He fell off a platform/step at the playground and hit his head on a steel pole. The pole had a bolt on it which gave him a gushing cut on his head. It was terrible on many levels. I saw the look of fear on his face as he fell. I was rushing over to him but I couldn't get to him in time. Then of course all the blood. Every mom on the playground brought me over any paper towel they had to help control the bleeding.
I didn't know what to do. How can I drive a child, gushing blood, to the hospital? Drew came over and started to cry. I felt bad, thinking he saw Ryan and I both crying and was scared. Nope. He says "I don't want to leave the playground yet." Seriously Drew???
So I called Mom to come help me. Of course when she picks up, I start crying and can't talk (being pregnant didn't help my composure). Kelly Arena, a preschool mom, took the phone to explain the situation. Mom and Dad came down adn by that time the bleeding had subsided enough that Ryan could go in his carseat to the ER.
The ER was great. Although it took a while, once they saw him they worked quickly. Before Ryan knew what was happening, they had given him a local shot and three staples in his head.
I swear I have post traumatic stress from this ordeal. It was just so tough. His face, the blood, his crying, my emotional response, the waiting. But it all worked out. Thank God for good ER doctors.
